LiposuctionSay Goodbye to Stubborn Fat
Even with new technology and treatments promising to sculpt the body, liposuction continues to be the gold standard in fat removal. It has a longstanding safety record and success rate, and millions of men and women have benefitted from it.
At my Sacramento practice, I can help you sculpt your body and achieve a smoother and more attractive shape. If you have any problem areas that don’t seem to respond well to diet and exercise efforts, welcome to the club! The truth is EVERYONE does (unless you are one of those few people with crazy good genes that somehow have no problem spots!). The rest of us, even with diet and exercise, have problem spots. I used to hate my love handles, and now they are gone! Yay for lipo! If you have problem spots that you’d like to get rid of, call us and schedule an appointment and let’s talk about lipo.
What Liposuction Accomplishes
Let’s set the record straight: liposuction is not weight loss surgery. It is not intended for severely overweight individuals or individuals who want to lose a large amount of weight. Liposuction can, however, help individuals fine-tune areas with pockets of fat that are hard to sculpt with diet and exercise alone. Even if you are a bit overweight, with liposuction, you can expect smoother and more attractive body contours, whether it be a slimmer waistline, a flatter stomach, leaner thighs or even a better-defined neck line.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
In order to undergo liposuction, you must identify a couple of problem areas that you’d like to get rid of. If you just want to get rid of excess weight everywhere, then lipo is not the answer. You should be in good health and ideally not smoke. Most importantly, you should also understand what liposuction accomplishes, the risks involved and what results to expect. The easiest way would be to come to the office so you and I can discuss all of these topics during an in-office consultation.
What To Expect During Liposuction
Liposuction is performed under anesthesia, to ensure your comfort at all times. The first thing I will do is create a series of small incisions (usually not even ¼ inch) in the treatment area. The incisions will be short and placed discreetly on skin creases or areas where scarring can be hidden under clothing. Honestly, once they are all healed, on most patients you can’t find them even if you’re in a small bathing suit. Next, I will insert a thin, hollow tube called a cannula through the incisions. I move the cannula back and forth through the fatty tissue to break it up. Then I use gentle suction to remove the unwanted fat from the body. Once I have made all of the modifications, I will close the incisions using small sutures. A compression garment is placed on top to support the healing tissues and ensure a beautiful contour.
Recovering from Liposuction
The initial recovery period for liposuction usually takes one to two weeks. During this time, you will feel some discomfort and notice mild swelling and bruising. This is normal and should subside over time. You will also be prescribed pain medication to take as needed.
Initially, your mobility will be limited and there will be some restrictions on your activity level. This may include taking time off work, exercising, and many of your normal, everyday activities. (I had my lipo done on a Friday and went back to work Monday, but only to do light office work — and to be honest I probably should have rested a bit more.) My team will schedule follow-up visits with you during your initial recovery so we can check your healing progress. You will immediately see that the fat is gone but you will not see the final result for three months as your body gets rid of all the swelling and bruising and heals.
