Eyelid SurgeryFor a Youthful and Alert Appearance
No one wants to look tired or older than they really are, but unfortunately, our eyes may do just that. As we age, the skin on the eyelids loses its firm and elastic quality, and the eyelid muscles weaken, causing the eyelids to droop and sag. This undoubtedly contributes to a tired, angry or older look.
The eyes play an important role in our overall facial appearance, so it should be no surprise that eyelid surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures I offer at my Sacramento practice. With the procedure, I can correct signs of aging on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both, depending on the patient’s cosmetic concerns and their desired result. Rest assured that I will tailor my technique to address your specific needs and help you obtain results that make you look like a rejuvenated and younger version of yourself.
What Eyelid Surgery Addresses
Eyelid surgery can address a number of aesthetic concerns in the upper and lower eyelids. This includes excess skin that obscures the natural folds of the eyelids, and weakened eyelid muscles that cause the tissue to sag. Eyelid surgery can also soften the appearance of fine wrinkles and lines on the lower eyelids by carefully tightening the skin. And it can smooth out puffy under-eye bags should they form below the lower eyelids.
In addition to cosmetic purposes, eyelid surgery can also be used for medical reasons. In some cases, the skin on the upper eyelids droops so low that it interferes with the line of sight, impairing vision. After eyelid surgery, some patients not only look younger but are able to open their eyes and see without restriction.
How I Perform Eyelid Surgery
There are several techniques I can use to improve the appearance of your eyelids. The technique I use will depend on several factors, including the amount of excess fat and skin on your eyelids, the condition of your eyelid muscles and the position of your eyebrow.
For upper eyelid surgery, I make the incisions within the natural crease on the eyelid. Through these incisions I remove and reposition fatty tissue as needed and tighten the weakened muscles. I also remove excess skin and re-drape the remaining skin over the newly contoured eyelid tissue. During lower eyelid surgery, I create an incision just below the lower lash line and remove excess skin and fatty tissue as needed. Once I have finished making the needed modifications, I will close the incisions using sutures.
The initial recovery period for eyelid surgery takes one to two weeks, at which point you will likely be able to return to work and your other normal activities.
Combining Eyelid Surgery with Other Procedures
Eyelid surgery can be combined with other cosmetic procedures to produce more beautiful or comprehensive results. It’s frequently combined with forehead lift to simultaneously rejuvenate the eyelids and forehead. Or, it can be combined with facelift to address signs of aging on the upper, middle and lower facial regions. I can make my recommendations for you during your pre-operative consultation.
